About Me

Blessing Uchendu, MSW, LCSW (she/her) is a Nigerian-American healer, trauma therapist, and speaker with 13+ years of experience. She is the founder of Freshwater Counseling & Consulting, a NYC-based therapy and consulting practice centering the healing of BIPOC people through body-centered therapy and consulting. As an EMDR-certified therapist and Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, Blessing’s specialty is in helping people “clear out the noise” in order to connect with and be guided by their most authentic selves. Her philosophy is that healthy relationships are cultivated out of a healthy relationship with ourselves.

As a “systems thinker,” she works at the intersections of individual and collective wellness, regularly speaking at organizations about how individual mental health is inextricably linked to collective wellness. Blessing has successfully developed and implemented programs designed to support staff wellness in both non-profit and corporate settings. Workshops have included: Rest as a Sustained Vehicle for Movement Building, Weathering the COVID-19 Transition with Grace, Going the Distance: Bring Somatic Awareness to Immigrant Justice Work

She holds a Master of Social Work from Loyola University Chicago and maintains licensure in both NY and NJ. When she’s not working, you can find her stumbling around on roller skates or practicing her French.
